Delia here. I thought I'd check in since Luca has been out of commission for the past five days or so. If you're wondering, we made it to Romania alright, with no meltdowns or major problems. It was so nice to land straight into Sibiu, my hometown, and not have to take a six hour drive at the end of our trip from Bucharest for a change. My family's smiling faces all waiting for us at the airport was priceless. Luca became fast friends almost instantly with all of them and we all adapted to the time change pretty quickly (7 hours later than Orlando).
However, on our second day here Luca got a bad stomach virus (either on the plane or we brought it with us somehow) and has been fighting it off since then without much success until today. We have lost track how many times we have cleaned up vomit and how many diarrhea diapers we have changed. To top it all off, this bug is a traveling kind and has jumped from person to person (Brian next, then Noni - my sister, then my Dad, Mom, Ina - my sister, Maria - other sister, Debi - youngest sister, and more recently my brother-in-law Sebi). Seems like I am the last one standing (or the next in line!). The good thing about this is that this family contamination has provided us ample time to sit and chat since hardly anyone felt like getting out of the house. I love sitting in the kitchen and shooting the breeze with everyone. It's one of my favorite things to do when I'm here.
Today though we ventured out since most people seemed to be on the mend. We had to bundle up since it was in the 30's here. It even snowed the last couple of days but melted right away. Luca loves to catch snowflakes and suprisingly enough he has not complained about the cold as much as we thought he would. Doesn't he look so cute all bundled up?
My cousin, Damaris came to visit us the other day. She happened to be in Romania this week and made it a point to come meet Luca and see us again. We had a great time reminiscing about all kinds of things, eating mamaliga, sarmale, baked apples...
Here's my Mom - Ana and my sister - Ina (the doctor), hanging with us. Love you ladies!
Luca loved his toy truck Damaris. Thank you! (And yes, we DO fit in the same armchair!)
One of our fun little traditions here is that Brian buys me new shoes every time we come to Romania (whether we plan it or not). We had a little date last night just the two of us (thank God for built in babysitters) and we 'happened' to wonder into one of my favorite shoe stores Leonardo's. I ended up with these cute shoes below :) I just LOVE them! Thank you baby.
Stay tuned for more. We got to meet my nephew Isaac in person for the first time yesterday! He is the cutest thing ever and I can't wait to show him off in my next post.
